Moong dal is
a dal made from green moong. Generally, green moog is a rich source of nutrients
and proteins. This dal is very easy to cook and it tastes delicious. So here
are the ingredients and easy steps to cook the dal.
INGREDIENTS:
- 2 onions
- 1 bulb of garlic
- 1 inch of ginger
- 2 green chilies
- 1/2 teaspoon methi or kasturi powder
- ½ teaspoon red chili powder(optional)
- ½ teaspoon jeera( cumin seeds)
- Salt to taste
- 2 medium sized tomatoes
PROCEDURE:
STEP 1:
The first
step is to boil the dal in the pressure cooker. So take 1 bowl moong dal wash
it properly and pour it into the cooker. Add the tomatoes with the dal and let
it boil till cooker blows 5 to 8 whistles and put the gas on a medium flame.
Once the pressure cooker blows 5-8 whistles switch off the gas and wait till
the pressure of the cooker cools down
STEP 2:
Meanwhile
chop the onions, garlic ginger and green chilies into small pieces. Then heat a
pan and add the oil into the pan. Once the oil is hot add the cumin seeds to
it, when it starts crackling pour in the chopped onions to it and a pinch of
salt to it. Salt makes onion soft very quickly. So, when onions become soft add
the chopped ginger, garlic and green chilies. Cook all of these till the
rawness of the ginger garlic fades away.
STEP 3:
Then add the
dry spices that are the turmeric red chili powder and the kasturi methi. Cook them
for a minute and then pour the boiled dal into the pan. Since the tomato must
have mashed up with the dal it will bring a good aroma and taste to it.
STEP 4:
Let the dal
gets cooked for 5-8 minutes. At this time butter can be added to the dal for a
good flavor, but it optional. After 5- 8 minutes switch off the gas. Garnish the dal with some coriander leaves
and serve it with rotis or chappatis.
